抄録: Recent years, to promote the Universal design for students with disabilities has been one of the most important challenges in higher education. The support systems for students with disabilities in higher education institutions have been expanded. The aim of this paper is to examine the challenges in the practice of such system in the case of Nara Women's University. It also aims to points out the structural problems of the support system. We conducted the interviews with the hearing impaired student to clarify how she feels when she took the lecture and had campus life. The result shows that the hearing impaired student experienced many difficulties. For instance, she had to select what is the valuable information for her even in the communication-oriented lectures. Moreover, taking information in next to no time is impossible when the lecturer asks the hearing impaired student a question, she cannot give instant answer. The hearing impaired student always had to follow the number of hearing students and teachers, she always oppressed in the lectures. All she can do is to cooperate with Note-Takers who supported her by taking notes to participate in the lectures. Indeed, they "must" cooperate and confront many difficulties because of the university's structure. This is the main challenge of the support system for students with disabilities. It should not be for the compensation for students with disabilities but for the reform of the system of higher education itself. We advocate that it is exactly called "the Universal design in higher education".
