抄録: Metal(II) ( = magnesium, calcium and zinc) complexes of octanoylalaninates were prepared to understand the effects of the metal ions and of the type of headgroup on the formation of glassy states. Conventional metal soaps (ocatanoates) of these three metals were also investigated for comparison. The formation of the glassy states were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction, and FT-IR methodologies.Of the six metal compounds studied here, the magnesium and calcium octanoylalaninates assume transparent and stable glassy states, while the other four metal-complexes could not be isolated as homogeneous glasses. The former two complexes were highly soluble in some organic solvents of higher polarities and water / organic mixed solvents, whereas the latter four complexes were hardly dissolved in most of neat solvents at room temperature. The metal complexes having high solubilities in some solvents were favorable to form glassy states, since the highly ordered and isotropic aggregates in concentrated solutions became an onset of the isotropic assemblies in solid states. The advantage of the alaninate headgroup over the carboxylate one for the vitrification were attributed to the bulkiness around the central metal in the octanoylalaninate molecules. The vitrification tendency for the metals in the octanoylalaninates was clarified in the order, calcium > magnesium > zinc; this result indicated that the larger ionic size of the central metal is favorable to form a glassy state.
