抄録: Dancing was proclaimed to be compulsory in the curriculum of PE in the first and second year of junior high school starting from school year of Heisei 24. The importance of physical expression has been widely recognized in education in general, but that of elementary school phase has been often described by the earlier literature to be "difficult" or "always lacking in time for preparatian", because "performing at the Sports Festival is expected to be mandatory". In this work, I pointed out that both teacher and schoolchildren often become aware of "third persons" in the process of preparing for the Sports Festival, and qualitative differences can be observed in the works for Sports Festival compared to those of usual class sessions. At the same time, throughout the activity of class sessions, children learned how to communicate with each other and to accept the images and movements of others and to give a meaning to those images and movements. In the sessions in preparation for Sports Festival, many of them were able to playa role as a member of a group in collaboration with others. You can see the educational instructiveness in both cases.
