抄録: The purpose of this research is to understand the acquisition status of first year nursing students’ self-learning ability. The subjects were 88 students, majoring in nursing in University A. Changes in the acquisition status of self-learning ability were examined through continuation of learning according to changes in the score of the Self Directed Learning Readiness Scale (SDLRS). The result indicated that nursing science majors had the following se1f-directed learning abilities since they entered University A :“attachment to study,” “initiative and independence in study,”and“ commitment to study. The results showed that “commitment to study” mainly motivates students when they first enter the university. Furthermore, their “basic study skills and abilities to use their problem-solving skills” and“ self-awareness as a good learner” were low. However, with the passage of time, the self-learning abilities of “creativity” and “development of learning opportunities” declined. Finally, the examination of subjects such as “relation with the current curriculum” were clarified.
