抄録: Denmark is generally known as a country that total fertility rate remains high relative to other developed countries. The discussion on the causes of its recent fertility emphasizes the relevance of social- economic factors, especially, of various kinds of child-care services provided by the public sector. On the other hand, according to Lisbeth B. Knudsen (2003), the reproductive behavior in Denmark is regarded as “deliberate decisions” of the women and of the couples. The purpose of this article is to explain the reasons why Danish want to have a child/children and what they give meanings to have one/ones. In order to achieve this research question, it draws on qualitative data collected through interviews in the Danish people (8 women and 6 men), each having at least one child (including one expectant mother). They were 5 married couples, 2 subjects living in a consensual union, and one widow (the former relation was married). It revealed the following findings. Some of the informants consider having children needs more responsibility than marriage, and they also think of „our family‟ by having ones. These findings indicate that in Denmark having children as well as marriage might be a way of drawing a family boundary, since the society highlights multiple partnerships.
