抄録: In this study we examined the visual search behavioral differences between experts and non-experts during the volleyball’s blocker judge the courses of toss. The subjects were ten volleyball’s blocker experts and ten non-experts.The task was to judge the setter’s toss course of a volleyball setter performing offensive action with three spikers while viewing randomized toss to three spikers on video. The video was filmed from the center blocker’s perspective, and it was captured five phases from a setter’s position; 1)a first foot-step, 2)a second foot-step, 3)a minimum degree of knee, 4)a maximum degree of elbow, and 5)an initial contact with the ball. The stimulus videos were temporally occluded just after these five phases from the ball were thrown by the passer. In addition, the subjects’ visual search behaviors were acquired by using an eye movement tracking system. As a result, at first, the experts were faster and more accurate in the setter’s toss course judgment than non-experts. We revealed the experts could acquire the information from setter’s foot position of early phase in order to judge the setter’s toss courses from this result.Second, in percentage of viewing points around the arm of the setter, the experts were higher than non-experts. These results were revealed that experts could set their viewing points around the arm of the setter, using peripheral vision to setter’s foot movement while they extract critical information for the judgment. The study examined the visual search behavior differences between volleyball’s blocker experts and non-experts as they judged the setter’s toss course.
