抄録: This article examines how an individual selects a course of actions in order to overcome serious friction, which he or she causes with a professional group, and maintains his or her daily life. It focused on organized groups of teachers whose members conduct explicit interactions with others during many of their professional activities. The preceding research describes the main cultural characteristics of teacher groups as being insular, conservative, mutually noninterfering, and acting in concert, and a centripetal structure of relations based on conformity. This article examines the development of frictions and conflicts of teacher “A” who caused serious friction with teachers’ union, a kind of organized groups of teachers, in two cities “X” and “Y,” and “did not act in concert.” Analyses focused on the process of definition and selection of actions towards real actions, taking notice of symbolic interactionism. As a result, the following three points are clarified. 1. The difference in education practice policies could be tolerated if the same education purpose was shared. 2. Interactions between “A” and the teachers’ unions were, in practice, conducted between “A” and individuals who represented each union. The tolerance or intolerance of representatives determined whether “A” would be excluded from the unions. 3. After being excluded from the unions due to the friction with them, “A” selected an action to change affiliations in order to maintain a daily life while remaining a professional teacher. In this case, teacher “A” was able to overcome the friction and conflicts by changing affiliations. However, many teachers attach importance to act in concert with education practice policies and authorities, and therefore cause friction with individuals who “do not conform.”
